In its proper sense, proofreading is a process whereby a proof is checked for errors such as typos, etc. before printing. Nevertheless, it is used in translation business as an umbrella term for related, but different processes such as editing, revising, identifying and correcting mistranslations, inconsistencies, omissions, and checking conformance with the source text.

In general the work required from a proofreader depends largely on the initial quality of the original translation. If the translation is poor, it may take considerable time and effort on the part of the proofreader, sometimes much more than a fresh translation.

A first proofreading is a standard procedure in our translation process: We thoroughly spell check, read and compare the translated text against the original before delivering to the outsourcer. Therefore, translations that we deliver do not need any independent proofreading in most of the cases. Nevertheless, we arrange proofreading by an independent native speaker (in all cases, also an experienced translator) if specifically required by the outsourcer.   

Please note that we offer proofreading as an integral part of translation process, and not an independent service. However, we do offer extensively commented proofreading to our clients involving short texts for evaluation/validation purposes.
